Sunny Hostin Repeatedly Claims Jim Jordan ‘Yelled At’ And ‘Terrorized’ Her in House Hearing — He Never Even Spoke To Her
On Thursday’s The View, Sunny Hostin talked for the third time in recent weeks about testifying before Congress, during which she claimed that she was “terrorized” by Republican Rep. Jim Jordan. However, a review of the hearing shows the Republican did not speak to or address Hostin.
Hostin referred specifically and directly to her testimony on the subject of cameras as a means of public record and public understanding regarding the Supreme Court. But it was cameras on Capitol Hill that made it possible to compare Hostin’s descriptions on The View against the public record.
“I testified in front of Congress about something so simple, cameras in courtrooms. He came in late. He looked disheveled and he immediately was screaming and yelling and terrorized me and the other experts on the panel. And describing him as a terrorist is exactly that. He’s a chaos agent and it came out of nowhere,” said Hostin on October 5, as conservative media site Newsbusters pointed out on October 5th, and fact-checked on October 9th.
Hostin was forced to read a legal note on air after her comments about Jordan on the 5th.
On October 11, Hostin again brought up the hearing, saying that she “testified in front of Jim Jordan, he seems like such a lunatic, he seems like such a wild card. And he’s terrifying!”
On Wednesday, Hostin was more explicit in her description, stating outright that they had specifically interacted with and at yelled at her, and that he was so angry at her that he was spitting.
The co-hosts of The View were discussing the GOP war over the Speakership, and how Jordan’s bid has fallen part. It has been so messy that fellow members of his caucus are accusing him of “threatening” tactics, with meetings reportedly devolving into chaos and conflict.
Hostin brought up her time before the committee hearing again, saying, “I mean, karma doesn’t lose anyone’s address. And I’m kind of enjoying it, in a sense, because I’ve had my own personal interaction with Jim Jordan, where he terrorized me.”
When co-host Joy Behar said, “Really?” Hostin continued.
“Yeah, when I testified in front of Congress, he was like spitting,” she said. “He was yelling at me so much that he started spitting.”
That hearing was livestreamed by the House Judiciary Committee.
Below is the entirety of Jim Jordan’s interactions at that hearing. In the clip he is agitated and angry with the the committee chair, and snapped at fellow witness, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin, who was there with Hostin and the other witnesses to speak on the subject of cameras in the court.
When Jordan began haranguing Toobin over comments made by the then-CNN legal contributor, he was interrupted and rebuked by Democrat and then-sub-committee Chair Rep. Hank Johnson. The two had a verbal battle, which, as shown below, Jordan also brought up again angrily at the end of the hearing.
At no point did he speak to or yell at Hostin, or even ask her any questions. In fact, after being given the opportunity for her opening remarks, Hostin was only asked two questions, both by Johnson.
He asked: “Ms. Hostin, in your testimony, you describe the challenges of being a journalist with a legal background who is often called on to explain the complexities of an ongoing criminal case. How would great a camera or audio access to court proceedings help you do your job better?”
He also asked: “I have a question for Ms. Hostin and Mr. Toobin. Gallup regularly surveys Americans views of the Supreme Court and for years approval or disapproval of the court has fallen on partisan lines. This partisan divide can depend on which party has the most representation on the bench or even the outcome of certain decisions from the previous term. I’m interested in both of your views on whether the Supreme Court’s secrecy plays a role in this divide and how providing video access would help ease the divide.”
Those were the only questions directed at Hostin from the time she gave her opening statement until the time of departure.
Jordan, meanwhile, continues to say he is running for Speaker despite multiple failed votes.
