Happy Halloween. This is actually terrifying.
A video uploaded to YouTube by a supposed Syrian rebel shows what it would be like to have T-72 tank fire directly at you. In the footage, viewers see a regime tank pull up to a rebel encampment, slowly rotate its barrel, and fire a shell directly at the camera.
The screen goes black. Loud noises are heard. It’s frightening.
Here’s a helpful GIF for you to relive the moment over and over:
UPDATE: Questions have come up about the authenticity of this video. Australia’s News9 has the details:
[A] ballistics expert with over 40 years’ experience working around the globe has said the video was almost certainly fabricated.
Francis Lawton, a graduate of the Royal Military College of Science and Army School of Ammunition in the UK, told ninemsn the footage was undoubtedly faked as there was no way any camera being carried in an armed conflict would be able to capture such a crystal-clear image of a tank shell.
[…] “It would be travelling at 2000ft per second,” Mr Lawton told ninemsn.
“The only way you could capture that is with a high-speed camera,” he said, an expensive device that would be much too big and bulky to carry around a war zone.
According to Mr Lawton, who has provided expert ballistics and bombings advice in countries around the world, said that at best the shell would be “just a blur”.
