‘That’s Russian State Television!’ Erin Burnett Aghast at Marjorie Taylor Greene Clips Making the Rounds in Russia
CNN’s Erin Burnett was aghast at the fact that clips of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) have been making the rounds on Russian state television. Greene is a fierce opponent of aid to Ukraine and has called Russia’s invasion of the country, the “war on Russia in Ukraine.”
The congresswoman is so opposed to aiding the besieged country, that she is threatening to force a vote on whether to remove Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) after he announced a vote on a new aid package. The legislation has rankled several members of his party who are deeply opposed to the funding.
On Wednesday’s OutFront on CNN, Burnett described Greene as “somebody who has Russia’s backing.” She then aired a clip of a Russian news program.
“Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is proposing for the U.S. to withdraw from NATO,” a presenter says in the snippet. “She believes that Americans should help Putin win.”
“That’s amazing,” Burnett reacted. “That’s Russian state television! In fact, ever since Marjorie Taylor Greene started speaking out against helping Ukraine, Russian state television can’t get enough of her! Look at all that.”
As she spoke, four screenshots of Greene on Russian state TV appeared on screen.
Burnett then cited a recent episode of her show in which former Rep. Ken Buck referred to Greene as “Moscow Marjorie.” The host then pointed to a tweet Greene fired off last year in which the lawmaker slammed the “Nazi army of Ukraine.”
That rhetoric echoed language used by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian propaganda.
