The View Co-Hosts Disgusted With Trump Calling Insurrectionists ‘Hostages’: ‘How Dare He Play With That Word!’
The View co-hosts voiced their disgust at former President Donald Trump for calling the incarcerated Jan. 6th insurrectionists “hostages” — many of whom are serving sentences for physically attacking law enforcement.
Trump made the statement at a campaign stop over the weekend, where he called on President Joe Biden to release the convicted criminals.
“They ought to release the J6 hostages. They’ve suffered enough,” Trump said. “They ought to release them. I call them hostages. Some people call them prisoners. I call them hostages. Release the J6 hostages, Joe.”
Whoopi Goldberg then gave a reality check.
“There are hostages around the world. The January 6th folks are not hostages. They broke the law; they went to jail. That’s how it works in this country. You break the law, they catch you, you go to jail! Not just once, but every time it happens, we try to catch the bad guys, and it was against the law what they did, so let’s start with that. They are not hostages. They are prisoners, and are not prisoners of war because this country wasn’t at war until you showed up!” she argued.
The View played a newly-released dramatic video of insurrectionists yelling at and threatening members of Congress through cracks in the House Chamber on Jan. 6, 2021. “That’s Republican congressmen holding a gun to the insurrectionists, who were about to break in, who were coming for them,” said Ana Navarro.
“How those Republicans can then go and endorse and support and campaign for Donald Trump, who was the cause for that insurrection, who incited it and promoted it. How they can live with themselves, how they can pretend that it was tourists touring the Capitol? How they can go around — Elise Stefanik echoed Trump’s words calling them hostages!” Navarro exclaimed, referring to Rep. Stefanik’s (R-NY) volatile exchange with NBC’s Kristen Welker on Sunday’s Meet The Press. Navarro continued:
We know what hostages are! We just saw them in the last few weeks in Israel, people who were raped, people who were dragged, people who were killed, people who were shot and put in caves and put in tunnels for weeks and weeks and weeks and starved. That’s what’s hostages. How dare he play with that word! How dare they try to whitewash history!
