‘There’s No Miracle Cure for Flip-Flopping’: Dr. Oz Roasted During PA Senate Debate
During Monday’s GOP primary debate for U.S. Senate, David McCormick deployed two knocks on rival Mehmet Oz in a single one-liner.
Oz has long been criticized for promoting questionable remedies for various ailments as a former longtime medical personality on television. The doctor also has a history of taking liberal positions on issues such as abortion, energy, and guns, from which he must now distance himself if he is to win the nomination.
Oz has landed the coveted endorsement of former President Donald Trump, much to the chagrin of many Republicans both inside and outside of Pennsylvania.
At one point during the debate, McCormick dinged Oz over his past opposition to fracking. Oz took exception.
“Dishonest Dave is at it again,” Oz said, using Trumpian alliteration to express disapproval. “He went groveling to President Trump with these types of allegations. President Trump saw right through him, did not endorse him, and then he endorsed me, because as he said in his announcement which he wrote himself, I know how exactly to manage our energy issues and deal with many of the factors that we as a nation have to be strong and bold on.”
Oz went on to bash the Green New Deal.
A moderator asked McCormick for his response.
“Well, listen, the reason Mehmet keeps talking about President Trump’s endorsement is because he can’t run on his own positions and his own records,” he stated. “And what’s true is that he has flip-flopped on every major issue we’re talking about in this campaign. He’s never – in his entire media career – advanced a conservative agenda.”
The former hedge fund CEO concluded, “The problem, doctor, is there’s no miracle cure for flip-flopping. And Pennsylvanians are seeing right through your phoniness and that’s what you’re dealing with. And that’s why you’re not taking off in the polls.”
