Tracy Morgan Jokes With Jimmy Kimmel About Using Walmart Settlement to Buy Bronx Zoo
Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan joked about using his undisclosed Wal-Mart settlement to by the Bronx Zoo on Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Continuing the show’s “Back to Brooklyn” week-long special, host Jimmy Kimmel and sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez met Morgan at the Bronx Zoo for a prerecorded segment. After exchanging hugs and greetings, the Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock alum quipped, “I just bought the zoo.”
“What do you mean you bought the zoo?” asked Kimmel. “You bought the whole zoo?”
“I bought everything except that one rock right there, but we’re going get that done.”
Obviously, it’s all a gag. Morgan didn’t actually buy the zoo — it’s all just a part of the comedian’s shtick, which is on full display throughout the clip. Considering his recent settlement with Wal-Mart over the June 2014 accident that left him hospitalized and a friend dead, however, the joke takes on a whole new light. Especially when you consider the explanatory blurb on YouTube:
Tracy Morgan recently came into a large monetary settlement and with that money made what Guillermo and Jimmy thought was a very unusual purchase – a zoo.
Since Morgan surprised everyone at the 2015 Emmy Awards with a joke about the incident, which spurred criticism from the truck driver’s lawyer, let’s start the countdown clock to see how long it takes for Wal-Mart to respond to last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live episode.
