Trayvon Martin’s Mother Following Zimmerman Arrest: ‘The Heart Has No Color’

Following the announcement from special prosecutor Angela Corey that George Zimmerman would be charged with second degree murder as well as lengthy speeches from Rev. Al Sharpton and family attorney Benjamin Crump, the cameras turned to the parents whose son was killed, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin. Fulton, who spoke first, reminded the attendant audience that all they had wanted this whole time was for there to at least be an arrest. She began with a simple statement; “Thank God.”

Fulton, near tears, continued:

“I just want to speak from my heart to your heart. Because a heart has no color. It’s not black. It’s not white. It’s red. And I want to say thank you from my heart to your heart. Thank you.”

Martin spoke next, thanking everyone who had assisted their family and stressing that there was still much work to be done and that, no matter what color or creed, he and everyone will continue to march on “with faith.”
