Trump Declares He Had ‘Every Right’ to Interfere in 2020 Election He Lost

Former President Donald Trump claimed that he had “every right” to interfere in the 2020 presidential election in remarks during a Fox News interview on Sunday that had legal experts accusing him of “confessing” to breaking the law.

The comments come a week after Special Counsel Jack Smith amended the charges in a case against Trump over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. The new charges aim to facilitate a Supreme Court decision that granted presidents significant immunity from criminal prosecution for actions taken as part of their official duties, a ruling that had cast uncertainty over the ongoing case. Trump denies all allegations.

However, speaking with host Mark Levin, Trump appeared unrepentant about his actions following his defeat in the 2020 election.

Trump said: “Who ever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election, where you have every right to do it?”

He added: “You get indicted and your poll numbers go up… when people get indicted, your poll numbers go down.”

Although Levin did not challenge Trump’s claims, backlash came online from former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance who iterated that there was “no right to ‘interfere’ with a presidential election.”

MSNBC host Katie Phang sarcastically noted: “Criming and then confessing to the criming. That’s a Trump specialty.”
