Trump Defends Kavanaugh, Dismisses ‘Ridiculous Question’ About Whether He Offered to Withdraw Nomination

President Donald Trump defended Brett Kavanaugh today in remarks to reporters, dismissing the idea that the Supreme Court nominee offered to withdraw his nomination.

“Brett Kavanaugh is one of the finest people that I’ve ever known,” Trump said. “He’s an outstanding intellect, an outstanding judge respected by everybody, never even had a little blemish on his record.”

Christine Blasey Ford came forward yesterday to speak out about her allegation of sexual assault against Kavanaugh, following reporting about the letter she sent Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Trump said Democrats should’ve “done this a lot sooner” because Feinstein had the letter in July, but added, “We want to go through the process.” He also remarked that he finds it odd that Feinstein didn’t bring it up when she spoke with Kavanaugh at all.

“If it takes a little delay, it’ll take a little delay,” Trump conceded at one point.

When reporters started asking questions, one asked if Kavanaugh “has offered to withdraw.”

“Next question. What a ridiculous question that is,” the President said.
