‘Trump Went Too Far’: Ari Fleischer Doesn’t ‘See A Double Standard’ In DOJ Deciding Not To Prosecute Biden For Classified Docs

Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer told an Outnumbered panel that he does not “see a double standard” for the DOJ deciding not to prosecute President Joe Biden over his handling of classified documents.

Reports circulated yesterday that Special Counsel Robert Hur will not charge anyone in the year-long investigation into the handling of classified documents at two locations connected to Biden. Supporters of former President Donald Trump have argued the decision is a double standard as the Republican frontrunner faces criminal charges from Special Counsel Jack Smith.

However, Fleischer came on Fox News Friday morning and argued that a double standard does not exist because Trump did not give the documents back voluntarily unlike Biden.

“I think there’s a huge amount of evidence about the weaponization about the federal government to get Donald Trump. But I’m sorry to say, when it comes to Donald Trump’s handling of the classified documents, I don’t see a double standard,” Fleischer noted. “Donald Trump went too far because he never gave the documents back. In the case of Joe Biden, it sounds like he gave the documents back as soon as he realized he had them.”

Unlike in the Biden case, the National Archives requested documents back from Trump but failed to receive a response to their request before the FBI raided his Mar-A-Lago estate. Meanwhile, upon discovery of classified documents, Biden’s legal counsel notified the proper authorities and returned them.

He added, “If you inadvertently have a classified document in your home, you immediately give it back to the government when you’re told you have it. And I think that’s where Donald Trump got himself in trouble. So I cannot defend Donald Trump on this. We’ll see what they have on Biden. But I do think Donald Trump is in a different category.”
