View Co-Host Raven-Symoné Defends Host’s ‘Apes’ Comment About Michelle Obama

On Monday’s The View, guest host Raven-Symoné defended the Univision host who got fired after he made a Planet of the Apes joke about Michelle Obama‘s appearance. Rodner Figueroa showed a picture of a makeup artist’s transformation into the First Lady and said, “Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she’s part of the cast of Planet of the Apes, the film.”

Rosie Perez was absolutely fired up about this yesterday, talking about underlying racism in the Latino community. She said, “They never want to be in the same group as black people, and it’s sad.”

She declared, “It was racist, period.” Raven-Symoné, however, disagreed.

Addressing the First Lady, she said, “Michelle, don’t fire me from this right now, but some people look like animals. Is that rude? I look like a bird! So can I be mad if somebody calls me Toucan Sam?”

Figueroa, for his part, apologized to Obama and insisted he was only referring to the makeup artist.
