WATCH: Dana Bash Confronts RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel About Vivek Ramaswamy Demanding Her Resignation
Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel shrugged off Vivek Ramaswamy’s attack against her when he went rogue at the GOP presidential debate in Miami.
Ramaswamy started the debate off with a bang Wednesday night — using his opening remarks to trash McDaniel and hold her personally responsible for the election losses Republicans have seen over the last few years.
“We’ve become a party of losers,” Ramaswamy said before demanding McDaniel’s resignation on-stage, blasting the debate moderators, and railing against the RNC’s decision to have NBC host the debate.
When the debate was over, McDaniel joined Dana Bash for a debrief, and the CNN anchor began by asking for a response to Ramaswamy. McDaniel answered by insisting she wouldn’t get into it with Ramaswamy and would remain focused on working against Democrats.
“This Republican-on-Republican infighting — I’m not running for president so I’m not in this primary — isn’t helping our party,” said McDaniel. “We lost races in 2022 because of vitriol within our party. We need every Republican and then some to win elections.”
On the subject of Ramaswamy’s complaints about the moderators, McDaniel said NBC and Hugh Hewitt “did a great job,” and she argured that “we’re not going to win elections” unless Republicans take their debates outside right-wing media and try to win over other voters.
“That’s what we have to do as a party,” she said, “and if you can’t take a tough question, then you probably shouldn’t be running for president.”
