WATCH: Trump Gets Dinged By The Simpsons Over His Paper Towel Tosses in Puerto Rico
In a short video posted online, the hit FOX series The Simpsons took aim at President Donald Trump for his much-maligned paper towel tosses when he visited hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico last month.
In the clip, character Moe Szyslak is shown looking at a tweet from San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz thanking The Simpsons for “keeping Puerto Rico in your hearts.” After wiping away a tear, the normally hard-hearted bartender walks out of his bar to directly address Cruz. And that’s when he dinged the president.
“I personally know how it feels when somebody comes and throws paper towels at you,” the character said. “In my case, it was flaming toilet paper but the principle is the same. It is humiliating.”
The clip ended with Szyslak going back into the bar and demanding barfly Barney pay up his $25,000 bar tab so that it could be donated to Puerto Rican relief efforts. The character then let viewers know how they could assist the American territory.
After the clip went up yesterday, the San Juan mayor — who has been highly critical of the president regarding his response to Hurricane Maria — sent out a tweet thanking Moe and the show.
Thank you Moe for understanding how we feel. We have very little power but having @TheSimpsons in our corner fills our hearts with light.
