WV GOP Gov Jim Justice Slams Sen. Joe Manchin Over ‘Ridiculous’ Criticisms of Covid Relief Management
West Virginia might be seeing a clash between two of the state’s leading politicians since Governor Jim Justice (R-WV) took a shot at Senator Joe Manchin (D) for criticizing his handling of federal coronavirus aid.
Justice gave an interview to CBS’ Margaret Brennan on Sunday for Face The Nation, where he defended his support for the covid relief package that just passed through the Senate. The conversation was held in the backdrop of the fact that Justice pushed for the stimulus bill while Manchin only approved of it after holding it up and asking for changes.
As Brennan brought up Republican criticisms about the relief package’s spending allocation, she noted that Manchin has criticized Justice in the past by accusing him of sitting on funds or using them for projects they were not intended for.
“How do you respond to that?” Brennan asked.
“Listen, Joe Manchin is a professional politician,” Justice answered. “I’m not going to get into a food fight with Joe Manchin.”
The governor went on by defending his management of CARES Act dollars, but he did continue slamming Manchin for his “political rhetoric.”
“I think his statements are ridiculous,” he said.
When Brennan asked if he stands by spending 100 million dollars in roads, Justice retorted that the state’s roads were in a “terrible state,” and it happened “on Joe Manchin’s watch.”
