Broadcaster and occasional GB News presenter Emma Webb called for the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby to “resign or be forced out” after Pakistan’s flag was flown over Westminster Abbey “during Holy Week.”
Webb was incensed by a post on X by social media influencer Oli London, who posted about the flag raising on March 26 but did not mention the date that the event took place.
In a since deleted tweet, Webb wrote: “I’m lost for words. @JustinWelby must resign or be forced out. Flying a flag emblazoned with the star and crescent of Islam… I cannot believe my eyes. During Holy Week, too. Pharisees, the lot of them. Caring only for worldly esteem.”

The foreign flag raising is not as provocative or controversial as made out. A Commonwealth member state’s flag is flown at Westminster on the day when the nation’s High Commission is represented at Evensong. Pakistan is part of the British Commonwealth.
When this was pointed out to Webb, she maintained her objection that the flying of the flag during Holy Week was “inappropriate” since the Pakistani flag has a star and crescent on it, the “symbol of Islam.”
Because this specific flag has the symbol of Islam on it, I still think it is extremely inappropriate to fly it, not least during Holy Week.

Webb’s outrage was echoed by GB News host Darren Grimes, who tagged Welby to ask: “What on earth is wrong with you?”
Further fact checking finds that the flag was not raised during the sacred Christian Holy Week at Easter but on March 22.
