George Galloway Supporters Surround Sky News Editor During Live Report And Chant ‘Free Palestine’

Sky News deputy political editor Sam Coates had his post-interview debrief with the studio cut short after supporters of newly elected Rochdale MP George Galloway surrounded him changing “free Palestine.”

Coates had just concluded his interview with Galloway, the leftist firebrand of the Workers Party, who had been criticised by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in the hour before during an impromptu speech against rising extremism outside Downing Street. Sunak described Galloway’s win as “alarming” and accused him of supporting Hezbollah.

Coates, in the politician’s Rochdale election headquarters, asked a typically feisty Galloway what he thought of the prime minister’s statements about him.

Galloway said: “You talk as if this is God. We’re talking about little Rishi Sunak in the fag end of his prime ministership. Don’t talk to me as if he’s come down from the mount with tablets of stone. The things that he says are somehow meant to awe me. They may awe you, they don’t awe me.”

As the Sky News journalist continued to press the MP on the conditions of his election win and Sunak’s comments, Galloway entertained his supporters with quips, saying he “despised the prime minister” and that he was not concerned about his criticism because Sunak “is not Moses.”

After taking a further shot at Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, Galloway broke the interview off.

As the camera returned to Coates for a debrief, and as Galloway’s supporters realised the journalist was live on air again, they surrounded him and chanted “free Palestine” until the news crew gave up and the show returned to the studio.
