Just months after her switch from ITV’s Good Morning Britain to GB News, Pip Tomson announced that she is quitting and taking some time off to “decompress.”

Tomson shared news of her departure via X on Sunday.

Tomson, who had been a familiar face on British morning television since her days at GMTV in 2009, joined GB News last year, where she co-hosted The Live Desk with Mark Longhurst and worked as a relief presenter across other shows on the channel.

Upon announcing her switch to GB News, Tomson had criticised what she described as “intolerant people,” aiming to “challenge and hold to account the powerful types and offer a voice to those disillusioned.”

Her departure appeared to come as a surprise to viewers who blasted the network for “haemorrhaging their brightest talent” as they speculated over what prompted Tomson’s move.

The news comes as GB News faces challenging financial hurdles, with a loss of £42.4 million in the last fiscal year, escalating its total losses to £76 million since its inception. It was revealed that the channel is planning to cut about 40 roles in an effort to streamline its operations.

Tweeting back to critics on Sunday evening, Tomson revealed that she was not one of the staffers who has been let go.
