WATCH: Speaker Lindsay Hoyle Calls Keir Starmer ‘Prime Minister’ Again
House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle once again mistakenly referred to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer as “prime minister” during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.
The incident came as Hoyle tried to settle down a rowdy chamber after he told MPs, including the actual Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, to settle down because debate was being stifled by noise levels.
“It is not good,” he said.
Turning to Starmer, he nodded to him and said “Prime Minister” indicating that the opposition leader continue his contribution.
It’s not the first time that Hoyle has deferred to Prime Minister Starmer. Just three weeks ago the situation played out in almost the exact same manner, when the speaker was frustrated over noise levels. On that occasion he did apologise, this time though he didn’t appear to even catch himself.
