‘What’s He Hiding?’: Keir Starmer Blasts ‘Squatting’ Rishi Sunak For Delaying Election

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer demanded that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak set a date for the 2024 general election, accusing the Tory leader of “squatting in Downing Street” as the Liberal Democrats ripped him for “running scared.”

On Thursday morning Sunak told journalists in Mansfield, after an appearance at a youth centre, that he was under the “working assumption” that he will hold a general election “in the second half of this year.”

Starmer immediately ripped the Prime Minister’s comments. He told Sky News: “I would like to see an election as soon as possible. I think the vast majority of the public want to see an election as soon as possible. People can’t afford for the PM to be squatting for months on end this year.”

The Labour leader said his party was ready and that he was ready to take on Sunak in debates, declaring “Bring it on.”

Starmer was at a factory in Bristol to deliver a speech that would outline Labour’s vision and to kick start the campaign. He kicked off “project hope” and vowed to overthrow the “miserabilist Tory project” at the polls.
