‘2016, You Suck So So So So So Bad’: Twitter Reacts to Carrie Fisher’s Death
It was announced earlier today that iconic Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher had passed away at the age of 60, days after suffering a serious heart attack during a flight from London to Los Angeles.
Fisher, who was also a best-selling author and acclaimed screenwriter/script doctor, was mourned on Twitter immediately after the heartbreaking news hit.
Due to the many high-profile deaths that have occurred this year and quite recently — pop legend George Michael passed away on Christmas Day — one theme developed right away.

Rest In Peace, Carrie Fisher. You held on longer than many could. It's a shame how many times we've had to say Rest In Peace this year.

Carrie Fisher was smart, funny, talented, surprising, and always a hell of a fun time to be around. Family Guy will miss her immensely.

Of course, much of the reaction referenced Fisher’s famous portrayal of Princess Leia in the Star Wars film series.

I'm deeply saddened at the news of Carrie's passing. She was a dear friend, whom I greatly respected and admired. The force is dark today!

I thought I had got what I wanted under the tree. I didn't. In spite of so many thoughts and prayers from so many. I am very, very sad.
