Architect of U.S. ‘Russian Reset’: Yeah, Let’s Not Do That Again
Remember the “Russian reset” the U.S. tried to get during President Obama‘s first term? You may know it best from that awkward moment when Hillary Clinton presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a button that was supposed to read “reset” in Russian, but instead read “overcharged.”
The “architect” of that reset, former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, spoke with Yahoo News yesterday and said he would advise the next president to essentially “stay the course, but be more robust” in U.S. policy towards Russia.
McFaul added, “Don’t say, ‘We need another reset with Russia.’ And I’m the guy that said that to the president the last time around in the Oval Office. I think it was the right decision in terms of a policy pivot then. It would be the wrong policy pivot this time around.”
