rahami-e1474299348636-2At a press conference Monday afternoon, authorities said that the man alleged to be responsible for planting several homemade bombs in Manhattan and New Jersey, one of which detonated in the Chelsea neighborhood Friday night, injuring 29 people, appears to have acted alone.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old Afghan-born naturalized citizen, was taken into custody Monday morning after a shootout with the police. Two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

FBI agent Bill Sweeney said Rahami was “directly linked” to the bombs, but added, “I have no indication that there’s a cell operating in the area or in the city.”

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters that the city remained vigilant, but there were “no other individual that we’re looking for at this time.” He also said, “We have every reason to believe this was an act of terror.”

No foreign group has taken responsibility for the bombings.
