Trump Says Terrorists Are ‘Hoping and Praying’ Hillary Becomes President

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continued his reliance on the landmark precedent Rubber v. Glue when, on Monday morning, he published a Facebook post asserting that terrorists are “hoping and praying that Hillary Clinton becomes President.”

After spending several hours tweeting about the attacks that took place over the weekend, Trump posted this to his Facebook page:

Hillary Clinton’s weakness while she was Secretary of State, has emboldened terrorists all over the world to attack the U.S., even on our own soil. They are hoping and praying that Hillary Clinton becomes President – so that they can continue their savagery and murder.

That assertion, of course, closely mirrors the facts that former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Matt Olsen published about ISIS literally praying for a Trump victory, which Hillary Clinton spoke about at a press conference last week:

Matt Olsen, the very distinguished and effective former director of the National Counterterrorism center, was so disturbed by what he has seen coming from the Trump campaign that he wrote an article that I guess came online in the last 48 hours pulling from public sources very clear statements by ISIS leaders essentially throwing whatever support they have to Donald Trump. They have, as Matt Olsen pointed out, said they hoped that Allah delivers America to Trump. They have said they hope he is the president because it would give even more motivation to every jihadi.

Not surprisingly, Trump didn’t offer any factual basis for his statement, which appears to be based entirely on the fact that Hillary said it about him first. Secretary Clinton referenced Olsen’s story at a press conference Monday morning, as well.

This is an opinion piece. The views expressed in this article are those of just the author.
