Ben Carson: Let’s Create a ‘Covert Division’ to Spy on Government Workers

PicMonkey Collage - ben carsonBen Carson said on Wednesday that as president, he would implement a new division of government workers who spy on their coworkers to improve government efficiency.

The neurosurgeon-turned-2016 candidate told a conservative club in Iowa what he had in mind for “a covert division of people who look like the people in this room, who monitor what government people do.” According to Carson, federal employees might work harder if they thought their coworkers were watching them. He finished the segment by announcing that for this group, of course, he would “make it possible to fire government people.”

Doug Watts, the director of Carson’s campaign communications, sent an email to MSNBC in order to explain how the “covert division” would work. He compared Carson’s proposed unit to a secret shopper program, being a “quality control strategy used worldwide to improve customer service and customer care.”

A report in February from the Government Accountability Office found that the firing process for federal workers can take anywhere between 170 to 370 days. According to The Fiscal Times, this “explains why so few government workers are actually fired.”
