Clinton Doesn’t Know ‘Which Donald Trump Will Show Up’ at the Debates
Hillary Clinton is preparing to face off with Donald Trump in the presidential debates, but there’s that little unpredictability problem…
At a closed-door fundraiser tonight, CNN reports, Clinton told donors, “We have three debates… I do not know which Donald Trump will show up. Maybe he will try to be presidential and try to convey a gravity that he hasn’t done before or will he come in and try to insult and try to score some points.”
She assured that she isn’t taking anything for granted in this “unpredictable” race.
And The New York Times tonight has an in-depth look at how both sides are prepping, with some amusing insight into each campaign. For example:
Hillary Clinton’s advisers are talking to Donald J. Trump’s ghostwriter of “The Art of the Deal,” seeking insights about Mr. Trump’s deepest insecurities as they devise strategies to needle and undermine him in four weeks at the first presidential debate, the most anticipated in a generation.
Her team is also getting advice from psychology experts to help create a personality profile of Mr. Trump to gauge how he may respond to attacks and deal with a woman as his sole adversary on the debate stage.
The Clinton camp also hasn’t yet settled on who’s playing Trump in debate prep. Their list of possibilities apparently includes James Carville, Mark Cuban, and Alec Baldwin.
Meanwhile, on the other side…
“I believe you can prep too much for those things,” Mr. Trump said in an interview last week. “It can be dangerous. You can sound scripted or phony — like you’re trying to be someone you’re not”…
[Trump] has been especially resistant to his advisers’ suggestions that he take part in mock debates with a Clinton stand-in.
