Conservative Newsbusters Compiles MSNBC Host Ed Schultz’s Greatest Hits
Conservative media watchdog site Newsbusters took exception to MSNBC host Ed Schultz’s contention that he hasn’t “said anything hateful on his MSNBC program in the last year.” So great was their outrage that they put together a highlight reel for Schultz that his agent will probably stick right into his media kit.
It’s telling that Newsbusters didn’t even try to challenge the idea that right-wing talkers like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are hateful, but rather that Schultz can hang in and throw bombs with the best of them. I would imagine that Ed’s response, along with his fans’, would be “Mission: Accomplished.”
The left has been searching a long time for a counter to the right’s dominance of talk radio, and considering the recent fate of Air America radio, hurting Rush Limbaugh’s feelings probably seems like a small price to pay. The comparison falls apart when you turn on your Bile-O-meter (patent pending), anyway, as Ed’s targets are people like Rush Limbaugh, while Limbaugh’s victims are people like Haitian earthquake victims. Two wrongs don’t make a right, but a wrong on the right and a wrong on the left is called “competition.”
Personally, I think cheap shots at Limbaugh’s weight and struggle with drug addiction are wrong, and reflect poorly on the speaker. There’s enough legit stuff to hit Limbaugh for. The reality, though, is that this business depends on eyeballs and earholes, and you don’t draw many of either by playing pattycake.
