‘CPAC, The Ultimate Safe Space’: Twitter Reacts to CPAC Rescinding Their Invitation to Milo Yiannopoulos

Media Twitter is lighting up in response to the news that Milo Yiannopoulos will no longer be appearing at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this week in Washington D.C.
The Breitbart tech editor and provocateur has been under fire since yesterday due to a resurfaced video where Yiannopoulos offered disturbing comments that seemed like a defense of pedophilia. Yiannopoulos was originally invited to the event in order to talk about how free speech is stifled on college campuses, but American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp has announced that Yiannopoulos has now been disinvited.
Yiannopoulos’ appearance at CPAC was a subject of controversy over the last few days, which extended to both sides of the political aisle. Liberal commenters were concerned about how CPAC was offering a platform to Yiannopoulos when he is known for making incendiary comments about various groups in his tangents against political correctness. Yiannopoulos’ right-wing critics have expressed similar concerns about him, having said that he is not a true conservative and is too connected to the alt-right.
On Twitter, both sides got their say as they reacted to the news about Yiannopoulos’s disinvitation:
Your Mom got disinvited from CPAC and various of Matt Schlapps say so.

Well it’s good to see that CPAC and students at Berkeley can agree on some things https://t.co/LvYlQmdix7

I’ll never get the hours I spent writing my ‘CPAC should boot Milo’ column back, will I?

Cpac, the ultimate safe space

i guess milo didn’t fight back hard enough. snowflake

Silver lining – maybe Bill Maher could bring him back again for his show. https://t.co/Q8FwSE0cKY

For those keeping score, Milo’s comments on trans people, Jews, Muslims, women and others didn’t disqualify him.
CPAC bailed at pedophilia. https://t.co/C4nBhDamHe

Congrats to @mschlapp for making the right call in the end.
— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahNRO) February 20, 2017
Sad that Milo’s well documented history of comments about racial minorities wasn’t enough. https://t.co/MyJM6wZPGQ

So, just to be clear, #CPAC is not OK with speakers promoting pedophilia, but bragging about sexual assault is cool. https://t.co/zS1eXk6egc

So, now we know. The threshold for the alt-right is pedophilia. BARELY. The wagons were only half-heartedly being circled around that troll.
— Bob Cesca (@bobcesca_go) February 20, 2017
Thank god. Now CPAC can get back the serious business of letting Sherriff Clarke, Curt Schilling, The Bundy Family & the Freedom girls speak
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) February 20, 2017
Easiest prediction ever: He’ll show up anyway and hold an impromptu media event. https://t.co/ZOA7OKZETJ
— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahNRO) February 20, 2017
No doubt Milo will now win this year’s CPAC straw poll.
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) February 20, 2017
Take note protestors: We got Milo’s appearance rescinded without setting any cars on fire. It can be done without giving him what he wants.
— Ben (@BenHowe) February 20, 2017
Colossal misjudgment to invite Milo, and now Cpac has put itself in the role of the "censor." And for what? Some clicks and headlines?

Any defense that attacks pedophilia (sex with a prepubescent child) but defends pederasty (sex with a pubescent child) is still vile.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) February 20, 2017
These are the semantic word games going on now. It's all vile. Listen to his words on the tapes.
13 year olds cannot "give consent."
