David Shuster and Rev. Al Sharpton Express Support for ‘Dump Donald Trump’ Protest at WHCD
Between parties at Saturday’s White House Correspondents Dinner, I spotted a small group of protesters outside the Washington Hilton who were trying to draw attention to their Twitter campaign against undeclared GOP frontrunner Donald Trump. Under the Twitter name @DumpDTrump, the group is trying to make advertisers aware of their objections to Trump’s attacks on President Obama. Former MSNBC anchor David Shuster wandered by to call Trump a “jackass,” and Rev. Al Sharpton also voiced his agreement before being frightened away by a boisterous Code Pink-er.
The group’s co-founders, Asher Huey and popular beltway Twitteratto DC Debbie, say that they’ve already gotten Groupon to pull ads from The Apprentice’s website, and they’re currently targeting big fish Pepsi Cola. The object of the campaign is to educate Trump’s advertisers about Trump’s “racism and conspiracy conspiracy theories,” in hopes that they’ll stop advertising on Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice TV show and website.
After our interview, the group was approached by former MSNBC anchor David Shuster, whom I had seen earlier on the way in to the WHCD pre-parties. He wasn’t shy about denouncing Trump, calling him “jackass,” and demanding to see his tax returns.
Awhile later, the group got the attention of Rev. Al Sharpton, who posed for pictures with their sign, and voiced his agreement with their aims.
Here’s the video of the DumpDTrump group, Shuster, and Sharpton:
