Dems, GOPers Capitalize on Game of Thrones Hype
(There is one spoiler in here for last night’s premiere.)
Game of Thrones returned into our lives last night, and amid all the dragons and scheming and the requisite “holy crap” moments, some in the political realm decided to get in on the hype by tweeting out their incredibly relevant memes.
Marco Rubio officially announced his presidential run today, but yesterday, as the Thrones premiere began, the Florida senator tweeted out this:
Brace yourself… #gameofthronesseason5 #newamericancentury pic.twitter.com/2nGMSlFOhD
— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) April 13, 2015
Now, you’d think that’d be that, but the official Twitter account for the Democrats actually retorted with their own meme, and just… well, look:
.@marcorubio: He reaches for water, but we're breaking out the Arbor red. pic.twitter.com/O6ATmGumkE
— The Democrats (@TheDemocrats) April 13, 2015
Get it? Because he drank water that one time? It’s funny and stuff.
But it wasn’t just the Democrats who got in on the action, the College Republican National Committee released a lot of Game of Thrones-related Hillary Clinton memes.
Take a look:
Hillary Clinton only wants to play games, but we know #WeCanDoBetter pic.twitter.com/3VMaTFy0a6

Just in time for tonight, #GameofThrones fans. Share Responsibly. Love, CRNC pic.twitter.com/CNNd0SEOMs

And wait, there's more. #GameofThrones pic.twitter.com/icmXNXxSIj

In the Game of Memes, you win or… nope, strike that, there are no winners here.
Now, this all might seem mildly amusing at best for the political class, but given the events of last night’s season premiere, I guess the question now is which campaign will be the first to go up in flames.
