Hank Williams Jr.’s Idiotic Excuse For Hitler Obama Comparison: ‘To Make A Point’ (Update)

video

Hank Williams, Jr. has released a statement explaining his comparison of President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during an appearance on Fox and Friends yesterday morning. The hyperbolic metaphor led to ESPN to pull the remarkably lame opening song for Monday Night Football that acts as cold open (and viewer intellect reducer) for the weekly iconic NFL game.

First, some background. Yesterday morning, country singer Hank Williams, Jr. made a regrettable analogy when he compared a golf game between President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner to a golf game between Adolf Hitler and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanayah. Naturally, the hosts of Fox and Friends, with whom Williams, Jr. was talking, seemed both confused and taken aback at the casual likening of a sitting president to Hitler, in an interview that became awkwardly entertaining.

In the wake of the poorly thought-out metaphor, Williams, Jr. learned that ESPN had killed his opening sequence to MNF, and Hank has since released a statement explaining himself.

“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was. They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.”

“Every time the media brings up the tea party it’s painted as racist and extremists – but there’s never a backlash – no outrage to those comparisons… Working class people are hurting – and it doesn’t seem like anybody cares. When both sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole when everybody else is without a job – it makes a whole lot of us angry. Something has to change. The policies have to change.” – Hank Williams, Jr.

Williams Jr. defends himself with a multitude of inaccuracies in his statement. Yes, there are many examples of individuals unfairly labeling the Tea Party movement as “racist,” but there to suggest that “every time the media brings up the tea party it’s painted as racist and extremists” is an absurdly over-the-top generalization. CNN partnered with a Tea Party organization to sponsor their most recent GOP debate – if that’s not media legitimization, I don’t know what is.

Williams Jr.’s idiotic commentary reveal more about the poorly misinformed masses who take what this joker says seriously, without any regard for facts. From a personal standpoint, I am glad that he’s been pulled from MNF, and I hope that we never have to hear from this buffoon again. Are we ready for some football? Yes, but without the side order of stupid, thanks very much.

UPDATE: Fox News has announced that, in a TV exclusive, Hank Williams Jr. will be interviewed on Fox News Channel’s Hannity tonight at 9PM/ET. Fox News has announced that, Hank Williams Jr. has CANCELED his scheduled appearance Fox News Channel’s Hannity tonight at 9PM/ET.

What?? Are you saying it is OK for the President of the United States to be compared to Hitler?
People, Hitler was a horrific human being and a mass murderer who committed genocide..Even if you disagree with Bush or Obama, I dont think anyone can sanely state they are mass murderers and thus deserved of the comparison..

I am all for for freedom of speech. The Dems had every a right to call Bush Hitler. Just as Hank Williams. Jr. has a right to call Obama the same. You have the right to call Hank Williams anything you want too.

It’s obvious the only excuse this idiot teabagging racist redneck has is that he was all hopped up on moonshine.

The funny part is the look on the F&Fs faces when they realize they can’t control the monster they have created.

  • rudeboy

Nice try to spin. Unfortunately for you, even if you are right, Hank is still wrong and the media is right because hank called an elected official in Washington a mass muderer be it Obama or Boehner.

    Right wing FAIL!!

I don’t know Colby….it was an analogy, he didn’t call Obama Hitler.

Many on MSNBC flat out called Bush fascist, and compared him to Hitler. None of them lost their jobs over it. They also compared Tea Partiers to Nazis.http://www.mediaite.com/tv/keith-olbermann-and-nazis-a-record-of-over-the-top-hyperbole/http://tv.breitbart.com/msnbcs-matthews-sees-nazis-in-tea-party-over-and-over-and-over-again/Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota) compared President Bush to Adolf HitlerRead more: http://newsbusters.org/node/14103#ixzz1Zp4PNzeU

When I first saw this story, I didn’t pay that much attention to what he actually said, just *ugh*’d the whole Nazi reference in general. But, seriously, why the outrage towards him, when this happened ALL THE TIME when Bush was POTUS – but they were actually comparing Bush to Nazism. And as I showed, MSNBC still whips out the Nazi references.

“Yes, there are many examples of individuals unfairly labeling the Tea Party movement as “racist,” but there to suggest that “every time the media brings up the tea party it’s painted as racist and extremists” is an absurdly over-the-top generalization.”

Really? Ya think *absurdly over the top generalization*? Seriously? The media hammered that message.
Don’t you think the real absurdity were all the racist accusations – many which were made by and on CNN? (one even last week by Morgan Freeman on CNN)

  • Anonymous

I don’t see much value in any entertainers political perspective, no matter which “side” they’re on. That being said, I just don’t see where he compared anybody to Hitler. It just didn’t happen. People hear what they want to hear sometimes. Especially when it fits their agenda.

Good analogy Hank and what was the point of the bi-partisan golf game anyway?????  Bunch of hype and still no jobs!!!

  • RP22

Yes the Constitution does protect our Freedom of Speech. However, that does not mean it is appropriate to compare any President with one of the most vile leaders in modern history.
Any backlash received is fully deserved and I have zero sympathy for the man.

And what is your excuse for being a bigot?

If only Hank had compared Obama with Stalin, Lenin, or Mao, the limpy-lefties at ESPN would have considered that a compliment to our Leader, and the Hankster could have had a warm, fuzzy interview with Ann Curry this morning.

When you get a story correct it’ll probably be the first.  As bad as this interview was, Hank was comparing the golf match with Hitler and  Ben & not Obama as Hitler. The msm make it  as easy to recognize their daily fiction as it is to recognize their phony resume.  Americans know the difference between real media and the old fantasy media. The real facts come out long before the msm fiction. I saw this story line two weeks ago..

  • AJsDaddie

Actually, it’s Leftist fail.  The dude said Obama playing golf with Boehner is like Hitler playing golf with Netenyahu.  He could have said it was like Wile E Coyote playing golf with Roadrunner.  He didn’t impute Hitler-ian characteristics to EITHER Obama or Boehner.  Only the Left does that – they make up what someone is thinking and then attack what they made up.

It must be wonderful to have such a rich fantasy life, but here in reality we see the idiocy.  And will respond in kind.  No more ESPN in this house, and I’ll be writing to their sponsors.

No Dummy, that was not an honest answer (the irony). It was reprehensible and reprehensible and a malicious smear. In your dumb world, if the answer was honest, then it means the President is indeed like Hitler.

Obama is a mass job killer causing destruction and suicides all over the country. Apparently Bill Clinton got his kicks out of not only Monica but watching 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus murdered, and allowed Bin Laden to attack the US on 911. Pretty good mass murder track record for democrat presidents, not to mention LBJ’s phony story that killed 58,000 US soldiers in Vietnam

I think Hank meant it as a compliment. Hank looks like the kind of guy that would idolize Hitler.

  • Mugabe

Obama is no Hitler – opposite – Mugabe!

  • George_goebel

    Don’t be this obtuse.

He also refered to Obama and Biden as the “Three” Stooges and called them both “The Enemy”.  Maybe you’re unable to connect the dots, or are just trying to be cute…but I’d think it was pretty clear who he thought was Hitler.

Taking the Hitler analogy completely out of the picture, he still said some rough things about both Obama and Biden, so it’s hard to believe the guy when he said he respects the office of the Presidency.

  • Exgoper

Are you really that naive? Or did you just join us on this planet? Do you know NOTHING about Williams or Fox & Friends tolerance for reckless comments about Obama?

  • George_goebel

Words have consequences.  Whether it’s Tony Bennet’s foolish views on 9/11 or Hank’s equally foolish opinions on the President, you’re always free to spout your opinions…just know that there will be backlash.

Frankly MNF was about 10 years overdue for a new opening anyway.

Why do they invite people like Hank Williams, Roseanne Barr, et al to talk about politics. These people are singers and actors. While everyone has an opinion everyone should not be given a prime spot to showcase their assinine opinions!

  • http://www.sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

I agree. if singers/actors want to express their opinions, they should be ready to suffer the consequences. I don’t know why media even asks and interviews celebs…. First of all, who cares. And secondly, it hurts their careers. And it hurts their *side* because the other *side* always uses it against the others, because they always say controversial things.

And now Ann Coulter is on Fox calling the occupy wall street protesters “Nazis” You stay classy  America.

  • TbagsRstupid

  • Roger_Fails

I make no defense of these people or their crazy rhetoric. I called out people I knew personally who made the Bush = Hitler comparison during those years. But I don’t really see anyone on that list you provided who regularly got a chummy reception on the sofa of a morning cable news talk show. These were mostly people writing or speaking independently.

Olbermann is the most notable exception, someone who should have been called on the carpet for crossing the line, as he did more than once. But by that same standard, Beck should have been yanked, too.

  • Anonymous

Based on the headline I was surprised to find this wasn’t a Tommy article.  Personally, I think Hank was either drunk or high, or both.

  • http://www.sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

I know nothing, nor care about anything about Hank Williams. The point I addressed is funny, and yet a wee bit true. Everyone is so hostile that they automatically equated Obama to Hitler, whether Hank did or not. Like I said in the other thread, we saw this ALL THE TIME under Bush presidency, so excuse me if I don’t get too outragrously outragey over yet another Hitler analogy. They are stupid, but it’s not like we haven’t seen them before. I recall quite a few about Scott Walker and Sarah Palin recently, as well.

Fox & Friends tolerance for reckless comments about Obama? – Didn’t Gretchen *disavow* Hank’s comments at the end of this segment?

Really? No more ESPN because he said that on FOX! Give me a break, uptight PC crowd.

  • George_goebel

I couldn’t agree more, Sara.  I think it all boils down to a high school mentality of both sides wanting the popular kids to say their side is the right one, so they can puff out their chests and claim “victory”.

The day my political opinion is based on a singer/actor’s opinion is the day they should remove my right to vote…lol

I was referring to the time when Glenn Beck casually remarked to Doocey/Carlson/Kilmeade that Obama was “racist” and “hates white people.” (Never mind the fact that Obama is half white.) They didn’t bat an eye and Fox certainly never took him to task for for making such an absurdly false statement.

Look, as far as I’m concerned, every side should disavow the Hitler/Lenin/Stalin/Mao comparisons. The rhetoric has gotten insane over the last two decades, largely because of the rise of talk radio, where the standards of what’s permissible are embarrassingly low.

  • http://twitter.com/tavernwench TavernWench

Hank Williams did exercise his right to free speech.  And ESPN/Disney exercised their privilege to can his lame-o MNF opening song.  Hank is still free to say whatever he chooses, but when you’re employed by a corporate entity, speech can have consequences.  Ask the Dixie Chicks.

Brian confronted him about it. But I think someone analyzing someones statements and actions, and coming to their own personal opinion on that person is their right. You can disagree, but Beck provided his reasons. Obama has made several statements about people he believes to be racist, or other opinions about people (bitter gun clingers).

I don’t think Obama hates white people, but if he wants to believe that some whites hold racist feelings towards black people, it is not beyond the realm to suppose Obama could hold some racist feelings towards white people.

Referring to someone as Hitler is stupid because no one is Hitler, and it minimizes the horrors done by Hitler.

There is something out of sync about this whole episode. I hardly know who Hank Williams is and his ESPN intro song is awful and inadvertently they may be glad that Williams gave them the excuse to drop him. The thing about the Tea Party and their main backers, the Koch Bros, is that these ignominious gazillionaires are exactly the type of blind, greedy, fascistic industrialists who early on backed Hitler before Hitler co-opted them. The Tea Party is basically a bunch of foolish people who are, quite rightly, upset and angry over our current economic misfortunes. They are being manipulated by Murdoch and other bad actors. Yes, the Bush/Cheney mob are borderline fascists who, hopefully, will someday be brought to account for their actions. If we look at the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations we see the beginnings of a true populist ‘Tea Party’ movement that is catching on and will dwarf and supplant the phony Tea Party. Obama, by the way, is a true democrat who has bent over backwards to accomodate the rightwingers, all to no avail, which is why the Democrats are changing their tactics. It doesn’t look good for the leaderless Republicans, who can’t even find a suitable candidate. Chrisitie isn’t running because he sees the handwriting on the wall. The Republicans are imploding and stand no chance in 2012. Thank God!

Oh boy! Your logic is really delusional. Even if he didn’t directly say it was Obama, do you really believe he wasn’t inferring it? You do know 2+2=4 right? You can completely disagree with everything Obama does, but do you agree he is the president? Some see a black man as the president and immediately think this cannot be legit. I want to see his birth certificate. It must have been voter fraud. We need to change this. All I can say is WOW! Let me just say I completely disagree with everything Obama does, but I do believe he is our president. Its people like you that get me grouped in with fuctional retards.

  • JMcCarthy

Mullah obamas propaganda machine, hollywood and the “mass media” want you to think the Nazi’s were “right wingers” when in reality the Nazi’s were Socialist’s, the “National Sozialist (socialist) Party” which is just one form of Communism, Marxism etc. and there is now no doubt that obama is a Socialist at the very least.  Mullah obama is just following in the footsteps of those famous Communist’s and Socialist’s that preceded him, Stalin, Mao, Castro and, yes, Hitler in the quest of the “glorious revolution”.  It is an accurat comparison.

  • greens196

Get off your high horse Pablo! I would be willing to bet you commented on something a comedian said about a politician. Its also funny how in the same sentence you belittle someone for their outrage over something then end it with “you pathetic child”. Wow!!!

Wow! MadCharles is fricking nuts! I’m honestly speechless. Dude if you are gonna make such bold statements at the very least do a little research. Oh by the way, there was a murder in my town the other day. Obama didn’t do anything to stop it. Since 1+1=5, Obama committed the murder. Dude please please get some help!

Texan- you have me a bit confused…So you are saying that all Presidents, as they all commit armed forces to battle, are similar to a dictator such as Hitler?
If so, I believe thats a very big stretch.
I have been in battle and I dont consider myself a murderer.Nor do I consider any solider a murderer for killing an enemy combatant.  If I or any soldier had tortured a POW or murdered an unarmed civilian- I would certainly think differently.
Your argument may turn into civilian deaths during war..That is where I agree it may get very murky.
That being said, I will tell you with clear definitive that all USA armed forces personnel is trained and strongly advised to try their best to avoid all civilian casualties.

His comment was idiotic and he’s known for it.  God knows if we cancelled every celebrity who made insulting and idiotic comments on national TV, TV and music would be very quiet!

I want my NFL opening music BACK.  So whatever apologies the jerk has to make, he’d better make it.
Colby, if you’re not a football fan, then yes, you won’t get the opening them music and why it’s beloved.  I LOVE!

Wtf are you talking about?  Lay off the dope, dude.  Or is your mind naturally this chaotic?  Oh, and how could any of those people have been involved in a quest for the Glorious Revolution?  I had no idea they were all alive in 1688 and allied with William of Orange against King James and the English Parliament.

Since when? Your agitrprop is meaningless. So a child can understand:

Fascism is a political system headed by a dictator (whatØbama is trying to be)
in which the government controls business (i.e., Dodd-Frank w/ Durbin Amendment) and labor (i.e., Trumka, SEIU) and opposition is not permitted (you hippies not there yet, but not for lack of trying)

FOX is scared – now That is progress!  This sort of baloney was standard fare for the last 8 years on FOX.  Now, just now they are seeing that the curtain will be pulled from those they cater to as ill-informed rednecks.

Hank is right about one thing – working people are hurting.  We have been since we started cutting taxes to the rich decades ago.  We have been since we started killing unions and manipulating the markets to benefit a few very very rich people.

Sorry FOX you cannot hide the facts forever – your run is over…

They’re not racist? Really, they didn’t seem to have a problem calling him a socialist or any other thing that they could possibly think of. Go down to the south and listen to them. If the tea party actually wanted to change the way things are then attack the Republicans, you know the people who pushed the war and the deregulation on the American people. They are the root cause and the Democrats followed along becasue they left their roots, the working class, to take money from the corporation and Wall Street. getmoneyout.com
