Las Vegas Police Issue Warrant For Cristiano Ronaldo’s DNA in Rape Case

The Las Vegas Police Department put out a warrant for soccer superstar Cristiana Ronaldo’s DNA as part of their investigation into a 2009 sexual assault case, in which the pro-footballer stands accused of raping Kathryn Mayorga.

The DNA from the warrant, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, will be compared to the DNA found on the dress Mayorga wore on the night of the incident. The 35-year-old American claims Ronaldo anally raped her while the two were at a Las Vegas hotel room nearly a decade ago.

The news comes several weeks after it was revealed that Ronaldo admitted Mayorga did not give him verbal consent numerous times during the incident. Ronaldo made the following admission in a questionnaire mocked up by his lawyers, per the German publication Der Spiegel:

“I fucked her from the side. She made herself available. She was lying on her side, in bed, and I entered her from behind. It was rough. We didn’t change position. 5/7 minutes. She said that she didn’t want to, but she made herself available. The whole time it was rough, I turned her onto her side, and it was fast. Maybe she got some bruises when I grabbed her. (…) She didn’t want to ‘give it to me,’ instead she jerked me off. I don’t know any more exactly what she said when she was jerking me off. But she kept saying no. ‘Don’t do it.'”

In response to another question on if she gave verbal non-consent, Ronaldo said, “She said no and stop several times.” (Ronaldo’s answer to this question was later changed to just “No.”)

Italian authorities will collect the Juventus star’s DNA sample and ship the evidence back to the U.S. for testing.
