Les Kinsolving Condemns Troy Davis Execution And GOP Debate Reaction To Death Penalty

“That’s just one of those things,” Les Kinsolving told Mediaite’s own Tommy Christopher, when asked about the Troy Davis execution and the GOP debate audience’s cheers for the death penalty. “I’m sorry I have to speak out where I believe it is right, and I thing that capital punishment is wrong.”

The right-leaningWorld Net Daily White House has been vocally anti-death penalty in the past, and was therefore often recalled in conversations regarding the Davis case. “I thought it was the most incredible thing, just horrible,” he said of Davis’ ultimate execution, reminding also that “[Davis] may very well be an innocent man.”

He was also critical of the GOP debate audience that cheered Rick Perry‘s execution record. “That was one of the places where I disagreed,” he assured Christopher, wondering again about the possible innocence of those being executed. “The question is, have any of those that have been executed, been by mistake?” he offered. “The chances are pretty strong that they were.”

Kinsolving was most critical of capital punishment’s effectiveness. ”Capital punishment shows how much we disapprove of of killing in cold blood, how? By killing in cold blood,” he argued. And does it work to deter future murder? “It never has,” he says.

    Uh…. who is Les Kinsolving?

  • Michelle

He’s the guy liberals despise until he says something they like.  Like now.

Too bad but that murderer is gone. Next time, don’t kill a cop. Yes, it’s just that easy!

If the guy opposes capital punishment in all cases, why even ask him about this one particular case or his thoughts about the reaction of some of the people at that debate? Who the hell cares what that guy thinks?

Not so fast, did you ever see the evidence, of course not, because there was none.

I suggest to you that Mr. Kinsolving is biased and rather inconsiderate. He asks if anyone has been killed (capital punishment) and it was later discovered that they were innocent. As for me, I believe that is where his argument as well as any credibility he could lend to the situation is lost. He needs someone to to guide him through the full course from crime (murder) through the appellate process up to the point of “ah you won’t feel a thing…” There are far too many needless deaths especially in law enforcement for this man to be exercising his free speech rights. I am aware of Perry’s execution rating; the guy over in Florida wants electric bleachers so he can off 263 or more at once. I too applaud Perry, the Florida warden who showed me “Old Smokey” and just one last bit here: Mr. Les Kinsolving, in this day and age of technology, it is one tough nut to commit murder and not be caught.

Never heard of the old coot.

There is NO chance the clown was innocent.

The above is from a column by Ann Coulter and it is absolutly TRUE.
Here are some real facts about the case.

First of all, the state presented 34 witnesses against Davis — not nine — which should give you some idea of how punctilious the media are about their facts in death penalty cases.

Among the witnesses who did not recant a word of their testimony against Davis were three members of the Air Force, who saw the shooting from their van in the Burger King drive-in lane. The airman who saw events clearly enough to positively identify Davis as the shooter explained on cross-examination, “You don’t forget someone that stands over and shoots someone.” Recanted testimony is the least believable evidence since it proves only that defense lawyers managed to pressure some witnesses to alter their testimony, conveniently after the trial has ended. Even criminal lobbyist Justice William Brennan ridiculed post-trial recantations.

I don’t think Ann Coulter has said anything that was true in her life.  This is the person that thinks any radiation is safe.  Eye witness testimony is the least believable evidence out there. There is no hard evidence found at the site plus witnesses were allowed to talk to each other.

The ultimate crime deserves the ultimate penalty.

Um, no one ever claimed there were 9 witnesses.

They claimed that there were 9 EYE-witnesses, seven of whom have since recanted, one of the remaining two of whom has spent the past 20+ years confessing his own guilt to anyone who would listen.

You obviously don’t have much experience with the criminal justice system; people are FAR more likely to be pressured by police than by over-worked, underpaid defense attorneys who hardly have enough time to even interview all of the witnesses.  Why?  Because the police have authority over them; defense attorneys have none.
