Live Tweets of Couple’s #PlaneBreakup Goes Viral; and It’s Wonderful
Something very special happened to Kelly Keegs last night, and it was so wonderful she shared it with the world (via Twitter). We thank Keegs for her contribution to online virality, because the story of the #PlaneBreakup will live on forever.
Or at least for its allotted 15 minutes.
During a flight delay, Keegs noticed a particularly loud couple to her left. Turns out, they were mid-drunken breakup. On a plane. Before it was about to take off:
This guy on the plane just broke up w his girlfriend and she’s SOBBING pic.twitter.com/IW9QVYxXdB

Keegs proceeded to live-tweet the events that unfolded. There’s too many to tweets to embed, so we’ll offer up a few of our favorites:
Girl: “Great. JUST GREAT. I’m so glad I paid 40 extra dollars to be on this fucking flight with you”

Guy: I don’t care. Girl: IM GLAD YOU DONT CARE

“Is that what you’re starting to do with me? Just slow fade me OUT? Just like the others?”
— Kelly Keegs (@keegs141) August 24, 2015
Guy: “You need to calm down” Girl: “To me I just really thought, you know, this was going to go somewhere”

Girl: “well what makes you so FUCKING SPECIAL?”
— Kelly Keegs (@keegs141) August 24, 2015
For a brief moment, the woman teased the existence of third party:
“I’m going to ask Charlotte. I’m going to ask her the minute we get home and we’ll see if your STORIES MATCH” (Omg scandal who’s Charlotte?)
— Kelly Keegs (@keegs141) August 24, 2015
However, that rather predictable plot line was immediately obliterated by a rather abrupt twist:
What the fuck? Now they’re making out. I’m not kidding
— Kelly Keegs (@keegs141) August 24, 2015
We took off, they immediately ordered SIX vodkas and Bloody Mary mix for the 50 minute flight and chugged them in silence between makeouts
— Kelly Keegs (@keegs141) August 24, 2015
Needless to say, Keegs had the best attitude of everyone involved in the #PlaneBreakup:
This is the greatest plane delay I’ve ever had
— Kelly Keegs (@keegs141) August 24, 2015
In a subsequent email to Barstool Sports, Keegs explained that she “thought they were loud and annoying at first” because they “were SO drunk.” But when the woman “started crying loud enough to capture the attention of everyone in the front of the plane,” Keegs began live-tweeting the event as it unfolded.
The Internet truly is beautiful thing. Also terrifying if you’re on the other end of it.
