The man of the moment is undoubtedly author Michael Wolff. His Trump tell-all, Fire and Fury, has taken the nation by storm and has been the center of the news cycle for days. The president has raged against it, sending a cease-and-desist letter in an attempt to stop the book’s release — it didn’t work — while going to war with former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who is credited with the most provocative quotes in the book.
Much of the conversation in the media these past few days has centered on Trump’s fitness for office, largely due to some of the more explosive excerpts from Wolff’s book. And during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press this morning, Wolff provided more fuel to that fire by claiming that there’s been quite a bit of discussion of the 25th Amendment in the West Wing.
Host Chuck Todd asked Wolff if he left out “good stuff” in his book because it may have gotten “in the way of the narrative.” While Todd was looking for positive stories about the president that might have been pushed aside, Wolff noted that if he left out anything, it was “stuff that was even more damning.”
Stating that the last few days of focus on his book seem to prove that, Wolff added that “it’s not unreasonable to say this is 25th Amendment kind of stuff.” The amendment allows for the removal of POTUS if the president is physically or mentally unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.
Todd jumped in, asking Wolff if folks in the West Wing had brought up the 25th Amendment to him. “All the time,” the writer responded.
“They would say, ‘We’re not at a 25th Amendment level yet,” Wolff added, causing Todd to exclaim that revelation was “alarming.”
“It is alarming in every way,” Wolff noted.
