New Yorkers Not Interested In A Tea Party! Cuomo Boasts Big Lead Over Paladino

New York is apparently not interested in participating in the Tea Party fervor that has been sweeping the nation and the media these last twelve months. Update: Also, the New York Post, who endorsed Paladino on today’s cover. Turns out the more New Yorkers get acquainted with Carl Paladino and his “straight talking” ways the better Andrew Cuomo seems. Not great, mind you, just better. From the NYT:

But in the race for governor, they are rallying not around the gruff outsider who has promised to take a baseball bat to Albany, but around an insider who has spent much of his adult life working in government: Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo. A New York Times poll found that Mr. Cuomo has opened a big lead over Carl P. Paladino, drawing 59 percent of likely voters to his Republican rival’s 24 percent.

New Yorkers’ embrace of Mr. Cuomo stands in vivid contrast to many races around the country, where establishment candidates face steep climbs to re-election and insurgents backed by Tea Party activists appear poised to win a significant number of seats in Congress.

The Times notes that its results may have been slightly skewed as the poll was conducted in the midst of Paladino’s homophobic brainwashing debacle. However, considering Cuomo and Paladino are set to appear in their debate tonight (along with five others) one imagines there is plenty of opportunity for Paladino to reinforce his offensiveness.

Don Paladino may yet vanquish Don Cuomo as the New York families may still go to the mattresses .

Did anyone think a Dem was NOT going to win in New York??? Especially against a weak /nutz candidate.

  • jooce81

It’s not that NY isn’t interested in a Tea Party, we’re just not interested in Carl Paladino

Lazio would have had a chance at the seat.

Carl’s in a hole and every direction he takes to get out only ends up leading him further downward.

Dunno if Lazio would have had a real chance, but he would have made it a closer race, and brought credibility to the GOP ticket

And NY is a perfect example of points I’ve made here in the past. Primaries are not like the general election. Completely different set of voters. That’s how Paladino and O’Donnell can win a primary. It also shows that not all candidates are created equal, tea party/conservative or otherwise.

Not a chance! The rest of the country can keep their tea steeping. We don’t play that game here in NY. Call us elite? Damn straight, we arm our children with education, not guns. We teach them compassion, not hate. We embrace diversity and move forward as one. Paladino maybe a New Yorker, but he will never represent us, because he stands for everything the majority of New York fights to protect. Real freedom. That “simple man’s” gutter politics crap doesn’t fly here. Four word sentences, “plain folks” talk, is not required. We also comprehend quarter words, just fine. We recognize substance and we don’t need empty thoughts explained to us in elementary school lingo. And we certainly don’t need the antics of backyard bullies, who use tough street talk to make us feel strong. We are strong, tyvm and we don’t feel a sense of accomplishment by belittling one another and pointing out what is wrong. We prefer the reward of actually moving forward and that’s exactly what we will do. As for Paladino? It’s been fun. I’m sure we will see you on Page Six in the future.

A staggering 286 this year. Crime is up:( However your bet loses. Chicago had 343 as of early October. More importantly, we need to do better. Nice try.

Note the word “most” in my post. And don’t impugn Obama’s home town like that. He did the best he could during his half term as Senator to clean up his “home town”. So much for your books not guns in NY theory.

I agree it can be better, but 286 is a city who’s population is nearing 19 million isn’t too bad

noekk certainly does NOT speak for all NY’ers. By and large people in this state are absolutely fed up with government that’s dysfunctional and has zero regard for reigning in out of control spending. People like Sheldon Silver are destroying this state.

And it’s not even a party thing with me…I actually think Governor Patterson (D) has done his best to take on those in his own party who never met an entitlement they didn’t love. Patterson is smart enough to see what the future will bring. It’s too bad he never had a power base to begin with. Props for trying, though.

The public pension system is a joke that’s absolutely murdering our state. There’s this accepted practice of “the last three years” whereby public employees frequently get to rack up as much unemployment time in their last three years as they can, so as to skew their final pension benefit up; sometimes ridiculously so. It’s so absurd that this practice has every been permitted, but that’s our NY government for ya. Some employees end up making more in their pensions than they did with their actual salaries! Nice, huh?

And talk about retirement…there are teachers and other public sector employees who get to retire at 55 here. 55! A guy from my neighborhood just retired (at 55!) after doing his 30 years of work with the state. Good on him. Bad for the rest of us. And the state public pension fund is constitutionally guaranteed. What does that mean? It means that slugs like you and I who work in the private sector get to see our 401K’s take a pounding, and then come tax time we have to pay more TO MAKE UP THE SHORTFALL IN THE STATE PENSION SYSTEM! God forbid any state employees have to bear any risk like the rest of us.

So “noekk”‘s rosy picture of how we do things in NYS is far, far away from reality. And he in no way reflects the mood of people who don’t live in the NYC urban zone. Pretty similar to California in that regard. If one were to take a look at the red/blue demarcations in California, you’d see that geographically-speaking, the state is almost entirely red. But then you get to the urban areas on the coast where it’s blue.

Carl Paladino is a joke, and is demonstrative of where the state GOP is. While Lazio would have put up better numbers than Cuomo, he has the baggage of being the one getting in Hillary Clinton’s face/space during their Senatorial debate some years back, which didn’t serve him well whatsoever. This state needs upper-tier GOP candidates who are plausible, because the voters are out there.

As for Cuomo, I hope he means what he said about no new taxes and getting rid of these ridiculous “Authorities” that abound in NY, and enacting pension reform. Authorities are quasi-governmental bodies that don’t really answer to anyone, like Sewer Authorities, the MTA, etc. In the end, they end up raising costs for everyone here as their function is often redundant.

Uh, New York State (after all, this is a governor’s race) is not a city. And actually, your do not have your facts straight. And, do you think a strong Tea Party face in any large city would have an impact on the murder rate (as if that were the only issue)?

You mean YOU’RE not interested in Carl Paladino. And I don’t blame you. But please don’t speak for all of New York regarding their interest in a Tea Party. I have faith that the majority are smarter than to have interest in the glory-seeking, pawns of the Republican Party known as the Tea Party. But I’m not vain enough to make a general statement based on anything OTHER than faith.

New York State has the dubious distinction of being the HIGHEST TAXED state in the nation, and next to california, the FURTHERST IN DEBT. Would someone like to explain that one to me? I can give you a few clues, both parties have been bought and paid for by the exact same special intrest groups. Mainly SEIU and other health care intrests, NYSUT, the teachers union, CSEA and a host of other tax hungry union acronyms, and don’t forget the trial lawyers association. These groups have driven Albany’s agenda for the past few decades. New York state govt is very secretive, and the power structure in the legislature is top down oriented. The assembly speaker and senate leader have all the power. Local representitives have no power or authority to introduce bills for a vote. I live in upstate NY and i have no voice in government. Albany has become a surrogate for New York City. NYC has about 40% of the states population, but they have 95% of the political clout. And the rest of the state has suffered greatly for it. We are NY states dirty little secret, an upstate region in economic ruin, we never got out of the 1970′s recession. Albany shruggs its shoulders and looks the other way. A problem to be swept under the rug. The NY City media has pounced on Paladino’s political inexperience and talk of nothing but affairs, bigotry, gay bashing, abortion.. all a bunch of trumped up crap to keep the ‘upstate problem’ hidden under the rug. So .. Yeah .. I will vote for Paladino, i would vote for pee wee herman before I’d vote for another Left wing lawyer from Manhattan. Its going to more of the same with Cuomo, back room deals, no public debate, and a continuation of New York state, the least representitive state in the nation.

If you READ the post, I was pointing out, its not about the tea party (i wasn’t speaking out against the tea party) it’s Paladino who NY’s aren’t interested in… (seperate Carl Paladino from “Tea Party”)

From all I’ve seen, New York schools aren’t doing all that great, and there are a lot of gang members using guns to commit murders. Did I miss something here?

New York has some backwoods areas, but mostly they don’t have these crazy fake christian, Nazi, hate filled for no reason clowns! People may want a conservative or liberal, but not everyone wants a crazy tea nut!

  • Doncornelius

Carl Paladino needs to consider retiring from politics altogether. He’s wasting mine and everyone else’s time, besides wasting his own time.
L’imbecille Carl Paladino è come una pietra nella scarpa degli Stati Uniti!

  • D REX

Heyyyyyyyy..dont disrespect ..Sean Pawn Hannity loves Paladino……and so does Shit Limbaugh.
