Obama Should Take A Page From ‘Schoolhouse Rock’
Twice in the last five days I have noticed media types making reference to the ABC’s old Schoolhouse Rock ‘edutainment’ spots that used to run between cartoons on Saturday mornings (and considering that all the youngsters in our office had heard of themm, maybe still does?). Jake Tapper, an unrepresented D.C. resident, twittered out the link to ‘No More Kings” earlier today. And last week Alex Pareene created his own “how a smear becomes a meme. Schoolhouse Rock, 2009 style.”
Last week Jonathan Glick suggested that Obama was risking failure if he didn’t “do visuals at his next speech.” And considering how much success Glenn Beck has had with his chalkboards, visuals are probably something he should consider because the health care bill has become so mangled this summer no one has any idea anymore what it contains. Actually if Obama had been thinking ahead, someone over there would have commissioned a Schoolhouse Rock video to explain the health care bill, that probably would have had a far better chance of going ‘viral’ than Joe Biden talking about health care. Maybe he should consider musical accompaniment tomorrow. In the meantime! In case you are still foggy on exactly how a bill becomes a law, here’s a refresher.
