Paris City Council Votes to Sue Fox News
The Paris City Council voted this week to authorize Mayor Anne Hidalgo to sue Fox News its repeated reporting about the presence of “no-go zones” in the city — areas where non-Muslims and police officers supposedly do not enter.
Hidalgo announced last month that the city planned to sue Fox, just two days after the network formally apologized for the “regrettable errors.” Fox News EVP Michael Clemente said at the time that Hidalgo’s comments about a lawsuit were “misplaced,” and Bill O’Reilly also dismissed the lawsuit as”ridiculous.” Hidalgo, though, said the city was “insulted” by Fox’s repeated chatter about the “no-go zones.”
A law firm representing Fox News told the Associated Press that the city’s lawsuit violates the First Amendment.
“The decision by the City of Paris to bring legal proceedings against a United States news organization is antithetical to free speech,” according to the statement. “Fox News will invoke every protection afforded it under all applicable laws.”

French comedians and TV hosts had a blast mocking Fox News, but CNN also engaged in similar reporting about “no-go zones,” for which Anderson Cooper apologized.
