Sarah Palin’s Facebook ‘Notes’ Are Worth A Lot Of Money
Further evidence that Sarah Palin‘s Facebook page may be one of the more powerful political operations out there — and we’re not just talking as a generator of catchy, potentially damaging, political phrases, either. The Daily Caller recently reviewed Palin’s page and discovered that it is in fact a moneymaker…for people Palin has opted to endorse.
First-time candidate Tim Burns in Pennsylvania raised $80,000 for his congressional campaign in 72 hours. Sean Duffy, an unknown candidate from Wisconsin, raised about $40,000.
How did they do it? Each got an endorsement on Facebook from Sarah Palin.
A review of Palin’s Facebook page shows that the former Alaska governor has endorsed 15 candidates on the social network. All but four are men, and all but one are Republican (Palin supported the conservative party candidate in the NY-23 congressional race).
For better-known candidates, a Palin endorsement carries the implied support of the grassroots Tea Party activists. Sometimes those endorsements come with personal appearances. Palin’s endorsement of Rick Perry in Texas, for example, helped attract 10,000 people to a rally earlier this year on Super Bowl Sunday for his campaign for governor. Perry defeated Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison several weeks later.
So the question going forward between now and November appears to be how does one land one of these golden ticket endorsements? There doesn’t seem to necessarily be any rhyme or reason to it, beyond having a platform Palin can get behind, though Palin’s unlikely support of Republican California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina suggests she may have an eye for absurd campaign commercials…so maybe get ready Dale Peterson!
