Senate Candidate Apologizes For Telling Male Debate Moderator He’s ‘Prettier’ Than Candy Crowley
On Friday, Arizona’s U.S. Senate candidate Richard Carmona (D) apologized for a remark he made in a recent debate, wherein he told the male moderator he was “prettier” than CNN’s Candy Crowley.
Following a heated moment in the debate between Carmona and Republican challenger Jeff Flake, moderator Brahm Resnik joked, “Now I know how Candy Crowley feels” — a reference to Crowley’s moderating the second presidential debate.
“You’re prettier than her,” Carmona told him.
Resnick replied, “I’m not sure how to take that.”
On Friday, Carmona apologized for the comment.
“I tried to tell a joke to lighten the mood in a debate,” he said in a statement. “I shouldn’t have, and I’m sorry.”
Resnick told Talking Points Memo, “Our newsroom policy is not to comment.”
