Sony Hack Reveals Hollywood Execs Joking about Obama and Race
The fallout from the massive hack of Sony Pictures (by either the North Koreans or those sympathetic to Kim Jong-un) continues, and this one’s a doozy: two Sony figures are allegedly seen on an email cracking jokes about President Barack Obama.
The exchange is between producer Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal, who emailed Rudin ahead of a dinner with the president and Dreamworks Animation’s Jeffrey Katzenberg. Pascal is a major Obama donor and Katzenberg a major Democratic donor.
As transcribed by BuzzFeed, Pascal wrote “What should I ask the president at this stupid Jeffrey breakfast?” and the two began to bandy about films by and/or about African-Americans:
RUDIN: “Would he like to finance some movies.”
PASCAL: “I doubt it. Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?”
RUDIN: “12 YEARS.”
PASCAL: “Or the butler. Or think like a man? [sic]”
RUDIN: “Ride-along. I bet he likes Kevin Hart.”
The sizable hack has already led to movies being linked to Torrent sites, movie stars’ aliases, and other sensitive or embarrassing emails.
