Starbucks Issues Venti-Sized ‘Oops!’ for Writing ‘Diabetes Here I Come’ on Customer’s Drink

After a Florida customer expressed outrage last week when he received a Starbucks cup marked “DIABETES HERE I COME,” the coffee giant has issued a formal apology this morning.

In an email to WJAX, the local Starbucks wrote, “We strive to provide an inclusive and positive experience for our customers, and we’re disappointed to learn of this incident.”

The incident in question came last week when a customer ordered a grande white mocha with extra Classic Syrup, the Starbucks blend of sugar, water, citric acid, and potassium sorbate meant for further sweetening coffee or dessert.

Store manager Kent Miller clarified that the only thing typically written on Starbucks cups are the drink type and the name of the customer, NOT — for those of you keeping score at home — anything about diseases that a customer may encounter later in life.

The customer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says simply that two of his sisters suffer from Type 1 (juvenile diabetes), and that he is not looking for an apology.

In the email, the Starbucks manager continued, “We are working directly with the customer to apologize for his experience, and with our partners (employees) to ensure this does not happen again.”
