Students Petition to Rehire Teacher Unjustly Fired Over Nude Photo
South Carolina high school teacher Leigh Anne Arthur was fired because one of her students got ahold of what is being described as a “naked,” “semi-nude” and’/or “sexy” photo, but her students aren’t taking the dismissal lying down. Neither should anyone else, once they hear the details of the firing. Over 1,200 students have signed a petition to have Ms. Arthur reinstated, because the reason for her termination is truly outrageous:
A 16-year-old boy took her phone, and with his own phone took pictures of an image on Arthur’s phone of her in a sexy pose. Arthur said she took the picture to send to her husband for Valentine’s Day.
The boy shared the picture through text messages and social media, according to Union County School District interim superintendent David Eubanks.
Eubanks said Arthur was in the wrong because her phone was unlocked and she made the inappropriate picture available to her students.
Before you ask, pervert, no, you can’t see the picture, but according to Ms. Arthur, she took the photo to send to her husband on Valentine’s Day, which automatically makes it innocent, and makes her an awesome wife. What’s truly outrageous is that not only is she being punished for having her privacy grossly invaded, but the person who violated her privacy has gotten away with it.
On top of all that, poor Ms. Arthur continues to be harassed over the photos. On multiple occasions, hard copies of the picture have been left in her mailbox.
What kind of country do we live in where a person can be fired for being the victim of a heinous invasion of privacy? Leigh Ann Arthur should be rehired immediately.
