Taliban School Attack Leaves at Least 126 Dead

At least 126 are dead after Taliban gunman stormed a school in Peshawar, Pakistan Tuesday morning, and authorities fear the death toll may rise, the deadliest attack in Peshawar in over a year.

About 500 students and faculty were present in the Pakistani military-run school; authorities say at least 100 of the slain were children.

Pakistani soldiers have surrounded the school, but it was unclear whether hostages had been taken or how many. Some reports said that gunfire during the siege was followed by several explosions.

“We selected the army’s school for the attack because the government is targeting our families and females,” a Taliban spokesperson said, claiming responsibility for the attack. “We want them to feel the pain.”
