Terror Suspect Mohammed Merah Dead

French terror suspect Mohammed Merah is dead following a seige at the Toulouse apartment where he had been holed up for over 30 hours. Merah, 23, has claimed ties to Al-Qaeda and responsibility for the deaths of four men and three children. Update: According to a report on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Merah is said to have jumped out a window to his death

According to The New York Times, heavy gunfire was heard “shortly after 11 a.m. local time but there was no official confirmation of reports that the authorities had killed the suspect. News reports said that police officers had moved slowly through the apartment before gunfire erupted, apparently as the man resisted.”

Three officers at the scene have been reported wounded.

France’s interior minister had previously declared that Merah wanted “to die with weapons in his hands.”
