Turns Out No One Was Intentionally Shooting At Eric Cantor’s Office

video

Maybe next time House Minority Whip Eric Cantor decides to make a (almost literally) federal case about something he should check with the police first. Yesterday, Cantor held a rather dramatic news conference to announce that the Dems weren’t the only victims of violence following Sunday’s health care vote; someone had shot at his office also! During the conference Cantor blamed the Democrats for “fanning the flames of violence” by politicizing the threats and furthermore said: “It is reckless to use these incidents as media vehicles for political gain.”

Uh huh. So today the Richmond police weighed in on the matter telling Politico that actually the bullet was just a random act of gunfire.

But that bullet that pierced the window in House Minority Whip Eric Cantor’s Richmond office was merely a stray shot from a random act of gunfire, a Richmond Police department spokesman told POLITICO Friday afternoon. Video of varying cable reports below…including a brief mention on Fox.

    Eric Can’t tell the truth.

  • tjl

Welp, that about sums it up.

  • TfT

Kind of like the Seattle Times reporting that a rock was thrown threw the window of Driehaus (D, OHio) office. Except that of course Driehaus Ohio’s office is on the 30 floor of an office building. Driehaus spokesman said “things are getting out of hand”!

Brietbart still has his $10K and I expect he always will.

Eric also talked about other threats he has received. Oh well, he is a republican so threats against republicans don’t count. Go figure.

  • perceptorii

I suppose Cantor is a savant of a ballistics expert, that he would have somehow known the actual trajectory at which the bullet was fired. Really.

  • Laughing@the left

I’d say the police have about as much credibility here as Cantor. Neither can say for sure. What’s not disputable is a bullet did hit Cantor’s office, no matter how it got there. Saying this was any sort of attempt to do harm is probably a stretch. The problem is there’s no way to prove the intent of the shooter. I am surprised I haven’t read this was a staged event. I’m sure that is floating around out there too.

  • dhg

It wasn’t until the Richmond Police determined it was raqndon gunfire, about 24 hours after Cantor’s statement, that it was known to not be intentional.

Also the Albermarle county republican offices has 3 bricks thrown through the windows.

For those of you, read all of you,who aren’t familiar with Va,where I live and in Richmond,Albermarle county is also in the state near charlottesville.

A valid criticism from Ms. MacNicol, but it’s worth pointing out that Representative Cantor does receive threats and and correspondence containing anti-Semitic rhetoric. Rahm Emanuel does, as well. There are serious threats coming at politicians from both sides, and while that is par for the course for *any* public figure, it does seem as though the political climate has taken a dark turn.

So you’re saying he should have known the bullet wasn’t shot intentionally at his office. How exactly was he supposed to know that, all knowing Bill.

If a teabagger didn’t do it, I don’t want to hear about it. Perhaps it was a confused teabagger shooting at the wrong window? That story would make sense. But anti-Republican violence? The left is too civil to ever let this happen. Aside from the Bolsheviks, Stalin, Mao, Fidel Castro, Che Guevera, Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge, the Weather Underground, Kim Jong Ill, Hugo Chavez, and the eco-terrorists, the left has never condoned violence. And they never will.

Lock up the teabaggers before they kill again!!

  • Jelperman

Another Republitard caught in a lie?

    Say it ain’t so!

  • Laughing@the left

I sense we are just starting to hear the reality of how normal threats are for politicians. Until a “group” starts claiming responsibility, I do not see this as anything more than the expression of over the top anger by individuals. Politicians acting surprised or offended by threats made after the passing of the most controversial
bill of the time is a joke. Retailers know the crazies shop the night of a full moon. Politicians certainly were expecting the fallout. Don’t kid yourself.

Will this anger turn into real violence? Guess we’ll see. IMO, while there is no place for threats being made, this boil over will simmer down.

  • Laughing@the left

Jelperman, I see you would rather be part of the problem and not the solution.

  • PureFreedom

yeah what a lying Republican, why cant they be like the democrats. They are so moral and trustworthy and honest. Why cant those stupid tea people understand what our messiah Obama is telling them.

Why would we need to vote in this country …we know the smart people are the masses of people in the urban city welfare system that are sucking off the system and never contributing into it. Those uneducated are far better to direct the country in the right direction then any tea party person.

Why cant people understand that! whats wrong with those Republicans and conservatives.

  • Bias-Media

Wonder if this would make the news if Cantor had been a Democrat who voted for the health care bill…

Still waiting on details of the story first reported by the AP that there are no evidence / proof that anybody was yelling racial slurrs at the Black Congressmen on Sunday before the vote…

  • http://mediaite.com Steve Krakauer

Michelle maybe he should have waited to find out THE TRUTH before he went and made it into a political issue!

This story really bugs me – he better come out and address this.

  • Bias-Media

    @Steve

In his defense (giving him the benefit of the doubt), at a time where a controversial vote was just cast and where several law maker’s offices have been threatened, Cantor wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a stray bullet vs one that was intentional…or even intentionally strayed…

For all he knows, this could have been a retaliation for the retaliation (Dem supporters retaliating for Repub supporter’s acts against Dems)…

but you’re right…his response to this news from the Police goes towards his character and integrity on this issue…

This said…are there any character and integrity in our government today? (other than flawed character and corrupted integrity)? (sic)

  • MichelleF

    Steve,
Is there a reason you always single me out? I was merely respnding to Bill’s comment that’s he’s a liar. Why don’t you get a life.

  • MichelleF

Oh and Steve, what about those Dem’s who cried that racist slurs were hurled at them, but even Jesse Jackson Jr., who was filming the whole thing didn’t get it on camera. Your are blinded by your idealogy, as you like to say about me.

  • writer

On CSI, they always know where the shot came from. They set up those laser pointers. That’s what Eric should have done.

  • Snipzor

So that pretty much explains why he left right after he made those statements. Thought so.

  • The Real Royal King

How, everyone, just enjoy a politician being caught with his pants down and no whiff of sexual activity in the air. You’d think with all the (White) Tea Partiers surrounding Eric, a more plausible story could have been fabricated. Well, now we have a nickname for Eric, Snickers, for such an amusing fable.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

    Hmmm…downward trajectory, huh?
It was probably just God shooting at him.

    Everyone knows God hates Jews.

Kind of like with all the cameras and mics, not one picked up the “n” word allegedly yelled at Lewis; not one camera picked up Lewis even flinching when the word was allegedly said; not one camera picked up the alleged “spit” spat; not one mic picked up the alleged “f” word said to Frank.

    Ahhhhh, the imagination og libs.

  • MichelleF

Rush and Glenn are right on this one, Pelosi and Jesse Jackson specifically went out in to the crowd to try to provoke a response and when they didn’t get what they hoped for, the hapless dupes at CNN made it up for them. Truly Pathelic, but predictable.

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

    I commented within hours of Colby’s initial post with a link to Pareene’s footnoted entry, which linked to the Richmond Police’s blog. The RFD’s official release (which was circulated on the internet) included the following;

A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman.

  • shootfromthehip

“Rush and Glenn are right on this one, Pelosi and Jesse Jackson specifically went out in to the crowd to try to provoke a response”

Wrong. You have no proof of this.

  • the real john t

    @ shootfromthehip

Well don’t you know, since Rush and Glenn said it that’s all the proof she needs. LOL!

That is my opinion. I am still allowed to that, right? But I’d bet my last $$ that my opine is spot on. Why else would they have insisted on walking through the crowd? That was not Pelosi’s normal route in. I couldn’t give a tiny rat’s behind if you admit it or not.

Obama – They bring a knife, you bring a GUN!

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

“Why else would they have insisted on walking through the crowd”

Ummm…maybe to show that they are not afraid and refuse to be intimidated by a bunch of ignorant, racist teabaggers.

    That’s MY opinion.
