William Shatner Reveals How He Was Finally Able To Embrace ‘Beam Me Up, Scotty’

Here’s a little late Friday fun for y’all. Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen has posted a fascinating interview with William Shatner, one of the only luminaries around where it’s not at an insult to play a clip of his work and ask if he was serious or not. The two of them have a great discussion about Shatner’s journey to finally being able to fully embrace his Star Trek legacy along with a fun tangent about the Esperanto-only movie Incubus. There’s also a clip from his new album of his spoken-word interpretation of David Bowie’s “Major Tom.”

Although, and with apologies to both Bowie and Shatner, that song entirely belongs to Gale Boetticher now.

    Here’s the real story:

Steve Jobs, Timothy Leary, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy used to drop acid and thru groupthink®, which is now a publicly listed security, created a “trip” where all the cartoons in the ’60′s that broadcast flying carpet plots was used as a “focus”. A “focus” has been used since by the military, UFO experts and NASA to find parts of the world, existent and not, for further research.

Jobs, Leary, Shatner and Nimoy “focused” on the Taj Majal, as if they all floated on a flying carpet in the deep, dark cavern of the Taj Majal and sat under highly-illuminated plasma generated lights that allowed for the following:

    Cell phones
    Apple

    Unbelievable huh?

Shatner’s cover of Bohemian Rhapsody from the same CD is a hoot.

I really like Shatner especially now late in his life and career. He’s having a lot of fun and it comes through.

I’m glad he ultimately realized that Star Trek and Kirk had real values and reasons to be proud to be a part of it.

We could use more of Roddenberry’s visions in our culture.there is nothing he saw through Star Trek that we aren’t capable of…if we can keep from destroying ourselves.

    Sounds like fun!

Yep, his Kirk and Nimoy’s Spock portrayals made for some of the most compelling TV characters.  Fascinating….

Some of the best TV of my childhood.  I loved that show.

  • BLANK! William Shatner.

    Beam me up Scotty,
    I control ya body,
    I’m as deadly as AIDs,
    When it’s time to rock a party….EPMD.

This is when I finally embraced the phrase.
