CBS Reporter Lara Logan: “U.S. Is Failing To Deal” With The Terrorism Reality

Before Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer had time to share his cheerful holiday poem, CBS Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Lara Logan, provided viewers with a sobering reality about the ongoing war on terror. In addition to saying everyone knows Osama bin Laden is in Pakistan, she also claimed most other terrorist leaders are hiding out there as well, and displayed disappointment with U.S. foreign policy for not more aggressively handling the situation.

Matt Taibbi Defends Rolling Stone Cohort Michael Hastings From Lara Logan Critique

Taibbi Logan

In the aftermath of Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s firing and inevitable resignation, Michael Hastings has appeared on a few programs defending himself. However, one of his most vocal defenders has been his fellow Rolling Stone writer Matt Taibbi. Having previously written a response to David Brooks’ comment on the subject, Taibbi published a response today to CBS’ Lara Logan where he did not mince words. How unminced was it? Well, the blog post was entitled, “Lara Logan, You Suck.”

CBS Sunday Morning last weekend actually produced a newsworthy moment that has people talking, when actor/activist Sean Penn discussed with host Lara Logan about those critical of his recent efforts in Haiti to aid those affected by the earthquake. “Do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah, you know, but I’m not going to spend a lot of energy on it.” Was he was speaking hyperbolically to make a point? Of course. But does the fact that March is Colorectal Cancer awareness month make it a tad more insensitive?

CBS Early Show: Lara Logan and Katie Couric On What The Heck Is Going On In Afghanistan

video

Logan describes the experience for the troops there as “hostile in every sense” and the uphill battle on the very rocky terrain over there. Good discussion of response to McChrystal entreaties for more troops, and Karzai‘s legitimacy following the election. Thoughtful and useful report.

The Letterman Bump: Will Craig Ferguson, The Early Show Feel It?

5.7 million people tuned in watch David Letterman on Monday night for the follow-up show to last weeks shocking blackmail/sex-scandal revelations — more than doubling the ratings of late-night rival Conan O’Brien. This is good news not only for Letterman — ratings are the silveriest of linings in TV land — but for Craig Ferguson, whose Late Late Show follows him — and potentially CBS’ The Early Show, depending on how many people fall asleep with the TV on.
