I Think That’s A Conehead: Barneys’ Weird SNL Windows

Window 3

Here’s a hint about the preceding window – they are all characters played by men, if the next is any indication. Here, it’s easy to spot Tina Fey‘s Sarah Palin, Amy Poehler inexplicably hugging the Earth, and Pat (who, at least, is played by a woman). The girl with the big hair and the bow — upon some consideration, I realize that it’s Kristen Wiig‘s Gilly. Ta-da!

If I may take a second to again complain about the paper mache – it appears, based on this close-up and the writing on her collar, that the rather frightening individual behind and to the left of Fey/Palin is intended to be Mary Catherine Gallagher who, while certainly not the mild, retiring sort, isn’t the hideous demon that is portrayed here.

That leaves four three still-to-be-identified. I should note – if you are in New York, and find yourself near the actual displays at 61st and Madison, you’re welcome to cheat. Cheaters win.

Window 4

The fourth window is, like the first, a tribute to characters. There’s John Belushi‘s King Bee and Steve Martin as King Tut, overseen by Roseanne Roseannadanna.

In the middle, a large “35”, plastered with photos of cast and crew from throughout the years. Along the bottom, a winding ribbon suggesting that the viewer “Have a Witty Holidays,” which, for what it lacks in articulation, makes up for in sentiment, I guess.

There is one mystery here – the small head in the loop of the 5. For the sake of stirring rancor, I’m just going to assume that it’s Lorne Michaels.

There you have it. Now, let the guessing begin – and for the person who identifies the most correct answers, a special prize: your head, cast in paper mache, by the star pupil of the aforementioned fourth grade class: Simon Doonan.
