Ben Ferguson Claims Mormon Tabernacle Choir Performed at Obama Inauguration (Did They?)
During a segment on CNN tonight, conservative radio host Ben Ferguson made a claim about the Mormon Tabernacle Choir that was blatantly false and was later called out on it.
Discussing the news that one of the members of the choir quit, stating that she can’t sing at the inauguration for President-elect Donald Trump (and comparing him to Hitler), Ferguson opened up the discussion by invoking abortion while bringing up President Barack Obama.
Asked about the singer’s strong words, Ferguson asked “was the choir endorsing abortion when they sang when Barack Obama was inaugurated because he’s in favor of abortion?” He then said the choir member was grandstanding and, with political commentator Symone Sanders also on the panel, the segment went predictably off the rails.
Before ending the segment, anchor Kate Bolduan provided a quick fact-check for Ferguson.
“One clarification,” the CNN host said. “According to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir website they did not sing for President Obama. Just pointing that out.”
‘There you go,” Ferguson responded.
