Bernie Sanders: Unlike Hillary Clinton, I’ve Stayed Consistent In My Views
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said on NBC’s Meet the Press that voters would have to contrast his consistent voting record with that of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
Sanders made clear that he “respects and likes” the former Secretary of State, but said Americans need a president who they knew would fight for them. “Whose track record for the last twenty-five years has been to say to Wall Street, ‘You know what, we’re going to have to break up the large financial institutions?'” he aked.
When prodded by host Chuck Todd, he began listing issues that Clinton had flip-flopped on. “Keystone Pipeline; I believe that climate change is the great global crisis of our time,” Sanders said. “From day one, I opposed the Keystone Pipeline… that was my view from day one.”
“TPP, I believe that our trade policies going way back– I voted against NAFTA, CAFTA, [permanent normal trade relations] with China,” he continued. “I think that they have been a disaster for the American worker, allowed corporations to shut down here and move abroad.”
“So people will have to contrast my consistency and my willingness to stand up to Wall Street and corporations, big corporations, with the secretary,” he concluded.
